Louis CK Banks A Cool Million

Funny Friday – Louis CK Banks A Cool Million
louis ck pic

Louis CK has been at the top of the comedy world for the last year. It seems like every comedian I know admires what he’s doing in the stand up space.

He’s raunchy, relentless and real. Beware, his material is not intended for kids or anyone who’s offended by vulgar material.

Recently Louis released his latest special Live At The Beacon Theater on his own website for $5 instead of selling the special to a cable network. By doing this, he’s grossed over $1,000,000, gets to keep the money himself and bypasses a bunch of corporate restrictions.

However, instead of keeping all the money himself, here’s what he said he’s doing with the cash…

• I’ve never had a million dollars all of a sudden. and since we’re all sharing this experience and since it’s really your money, I wanted to let you know what I’m doing with it.

• The first 250k is going to pay back what the special cost to produce and the website to build.

• The second 250k is going back to my staff and the people who work for me on the special and on my show. I’m giving them a big fat bonus.

• The third 280k is going to a few different charities. They are listed below in case you’d like to donate to them also. Some of these i learned about through friends, some were recommended through twitter.

• That leaves me with 220k for myself. Some of that will pay my rent and will care for my children. The rest I will do terrible, horrible things with and none of that is any of your business. In any case, to me, 220k is enough out of a million.

Way to go Louis.

If you want to check out the special, you can download it for $5 at www.LouisCK.net

Again, remember this is VERY adult content and sometimes very obscene. However, here’s Louis doing some PG-13 (and very insightful) material on Conan…

Kyle Cease & Kyle’s Cult

Funny Friday – Kyle’s Cult

Over the last year I’ve had the opportunity to closely work with one of the most genius comedians you’ll ever run across. His name is Kyle Cease.

Loyal readers of my blog or those that know me via social media surely know who Kyle is. Since I started really getting to know him he’s transitioned his career from just being a stand up comedian to being a motivational and keynote speaker. His latest college tour has had a tremendous impact on thousands of students as he speaks about his own anxiety and panic attacks he used to suffer from.

Over the last few months we actually put together a product that helps people to rid themselves of panic attacks. You can check that out at www.panicfreelife.com if you like.

However, today is Funny Friday and talking about panic attacks really isn’t all that hilarious. So, lets move onto something that is chuckle worthy, something like… Kyle’s Cult.kyles cult podcast

Last year Kyle went through some incredible changes in his career. He used to run a program called Stand Up Bootcamp with Louie Anderson, and in the process of doing that he took on a ton of criticism from many comics. Many of them were downright malicious and total dicks accusing Kyle of all kinds of crap they knew little about. The misinformation and hate was astronomical and really gave me some insight into just how miserable many comics are in their lives.

However, throughout the whole ordeal I got to witness him become a warrior when it comes to his mission in life. At first the criticism and hatred bothered him. Then he used it as fuel to grow into a battle tested soldier of the stage. To this day he continues to help comics and people in need of a better life advance their dreams and aspirations.

Most comics agree that you can’t teach people to be funny. And that was never the goal of Stand Up Bootcamp. Instead, it was a avenue to help people get in touch with who they really are, so they can let that shine on the stage. You pretty much have to see it in action to really understand.

Well, you are in luck because you are about to see that right now. Well, I lied. You won’t see it, but you will be able to hear it on podcast #19 of Kyle’s Cult.

Many people wonder what it would be like to do stand up comedy for the first time. For most, it’s a very scary feeling. And rightfully so. You’re looking for validation or laughs from the crowd about every 20 seconds. If you fall flat on 2 or 3 jokes, five minutes can seem like an eternity.

In this episode of Kyle’s Cult, Kyle and Diego are broadcasting from a club in Denver. During the podcast, he brings up a student and has him do his first ever set from the stage. But it’s after the set that the magic starts. You’ll get to hear first hand how Kyle transforms this guys act into something that comes from his core instead of a few jokes written from his head.

Watching Kyle work with students is such a treat because he gets so submerged into the process and really helps to dig out the gems in each comedians personality. You gotta listen to truly understand.

Kid Gives Speech After Learning To Ride A Bike Parody

The other day while Kyle and I were working on some projects we stumbled across this little did giving a motivational speech about learning to ride a bike. You can see the original video by clicking here.

Truthfully, this kid actually inspired us to do a bunch of stuff that day. We accomplished a ton. Then we decided to make this video to accomplish the impossible…

Up Late With Adam Fisher

May 1st or “May Day” marks the one year point from when I first set foot upon Lana’s porch in Austin Texas and became her boyfriend. To celebrate our first year anniversary I planned a nice little night out on the town.

First we headed to Boa Steakhouse around the corner from our house. It’s a super swanky joint where you’ll find all kinds of high profile celebrities and over priced food. I dropped about $172 for a two steaks grizzled with fat and a couple of girly martini drinks, but hey, it’s my ladies favorite spot and I kind of get the feeling Sizzler just wouldn’t of had the same effect. It was a nice time, great service and we did have a celebrity sighting. Well, sort of. I noticed Chris Porter on the patio as we were leaving. He’s a groovy comedian guy that has given me some great advice about standup at The Comedy Store.

After dinner we headed over the LA Comedy Sportz theatre to see a couple shows. Unfortunately, the crowd was really slim pickings so the Old Milwaukee crew had to cancel their show. We had the chance to meet the cast and give them some shit out front for a few minutes. They are long form improv group, and I was anxious to see them. Maybe another time. So, we hit some dive bar, downed a few drinks and came back.

That’s when we got to see the highlight of the night. It was this funny cat by the name of Adam Fisher who hosts a show called Up Late With Adam. I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when I bought tickets on the internet. I prefer to just wing it like that. Anyhow, the show is similar to any late night show like Conan, Letterman, Leno, etc except that all the material and jokes are created live during the show.

A cast of writers from shows like Jimmy Kimmel, George Lopez and Mad TV took 10 topic suggestions from the audience, and these suggestions formed the content of the show. After the suggestions were gathered, the writers instantly start crafting jokes as quickly as they can scribble them. Once the jokes were written, they handed a stack of cue cards to Adam and he rocks the mic and delivers the jokes. It’s a very interesting dynamic because Adam really has little heads up about what he’s about to present. So it’s imperative that he improv well to make the jokes go over well.

Here is a clip of the monologue of the show…

After the monologue Adam starts to interview some guests who are made up of actors and hilarious performers. Remember, the entire show was improvised and based on audience suggestions from the beginning of the show. It was a riot. After the show the cast members spent time shaking hands and thanking people for coming out. It was a great time and I reckon we’ll go back for seconds some time soon.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area on a Sunday night and want to check out some amazing improv comedy, peep the info below.

Rebecca Black Friday Parody By Kyle Cease

Well, it’s Friday and unless you’ve been living in a cave you’ve probably heard about overnight internet sensation Rebecca Black and her ridiculously catchy song Friday.

This girly has gotten about 17,000,000 views this week and a ton of hate mail and press. Poor girl. She’s only 13 and I’m sure she never expected anything like this to happen. Anyhow, we had to shoot a spoof. Kyle Cease pioneered the video and comedian Travon Free plays the rapper guy. Our buddy Diego edited the entire thing and Lana and I had small little cameos.

Grab some popcorn, cuz it’s Friday. errr…. I mean Wednesday.

Kyle did a follow up video today to give Rebecca Black a bit of encouragement. This is some really good advice for anyone dealing with haters or nay sayers.

Separating My Subscriber Lists

For the last year or so I’ve been sort of scatterbrains with all my email lists and I’ve been ignoring one of the most fundamental principals in successful email marketing. That principal is “Message To Market Match”.

Thankfully, you guys have been so awesome it hasn’t been that much of an issue (at least that I know of). However, today I’d like to change that and get laser targeted with my emails so you only receive those that you want for me.

Please check out the short 2 minute video and sign up for my comedy and self improvement lists below if you are interested in hearing from me on those topics.

Thanks.

Louie Anderson on Craig Ferguson

I’ve had an amazing opportunity to learn a bunch about comedy from Louie Anderson during the last year. He’s one of the nicest and helpful guys you’ll ever meet.

If you have a chance to see his live act in your town, check it out. You won’t regret it. His act is family friendly and still funnier than most R-rated comedians.

I’ve always loved the rapport that Louie has with Craig Ferguson.

Check out Louie Anderson on Craig Ferguson in the video below….

Cheers,

Jason

PS: If you ever thought of giving stand up comedy a try but wanted to learn the ropes a bit before throwing yourself up on stage, I got a resource that I’ve read that I think is quite helpful to any comedy rookie. It won’t make you funny, but will help you along the way with joke writing, delivery and such.

The book is called “The Killer Stand Up Comedy System“.

I’ll admit, the name is pretty cheesy. However, Steve Roye was nice enough to send me a comp copy and I read the entire book. It’s definitely worth the cover price and will definitely open your eyes to the comedy world.

Kyle Cease Does Ted Williams Spoof

Last month Lana and I were filming a silly video short for Comedy Central with my buddy Kyle Cease and we started to discuss viral videos. If you aren’t familiar with Kyle, you should definitely check out his site and opt into his mailing list at www.kylecease.com

The chat we were having was about “Speed Of Implementation” and how you needed to be ready to film spoofs at a moments notice. You may see something breaking on the news, get a great idea, and need to be ready to start filming and editing right away while the story is still hot. Well, this is about the hottest thing on the internet right now and Kyle quickly got to work and came up with this spoof…

The story of the real Ted Williams with the golden tongue is pure amazing. Everyone has been captivated by this fellow. And rightfully so. His story is nothing short of incredible considering just days ago he was pan handling on the streets of Ohio. Today he’s receiving more work offers than he can possibly take on. Good for him.

Anyhow, back to the idea of Speed Of Implementation. If you’ve ever seen Eben Pagan’s “Get Altitude” seminar you may of seen him talking about this concept. He suggested that those who are quick to create content are much more likely to succeed then those who sit around and try to plan the perfect scheme. While he was giving this speech from the stage I began to make a blog and follow his instructions. Before the lunch break I had a new blog up, and had made around $500 or so (can’t really remember the exact number).

I mentioned it to him after lunch and he brought me up before the crowd to share my story. It was a pretty exciting experience. Soon after, dozens in the crowd started sharing their results of their quick implementation tests. Lots of people raked in some serious coin by quickly implementing the advice they were given.

So, I just wanted to congratulate Kyle on quickly getting this Ted Williams spoof up so quickly, and for having such a positive impact on my life in 2010. He’s one of the most amazing guys I’ve ever met and he’s doing some incredible videos right now about commitment (he just did 90 days straight on raw food while doing P90X, and filmed a documentary about it), and a bunch of stuff on battling stage fright.

I can’t wait to show you some of the things he’s been privately doing behind the scenes. I believe it will motivate a lot of people to do some stellar things in 2011.

So, if you haven’t already check out Kyle’s blog and sign up for his mailing list (don’t worry, he almost never mails and barely ever pitches anything. He’s a comedian, not a marketer). You’ll be glad you did.

And, maybe you could help us try to get this video going viral. Think we can hit 50,000 views in a couple days? I bet we can!

Help us out and share on Facebook, Twitter, or your favorite social media channels.

Peace
