Introducing Marketing Monday

Marketing Monday

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been on a blogging frenzy this month. My goal is to have at least one blog post every day. However, I’ve tried to do this in the past and every time I lost steam after a week or so and laziness kicked in.

But there’s a new plan!

The other day I was watching a video called YOU by my buddy Kyle Cease. Instantly after watching the video I jumped off my ass, went to the farmers market, and started creating some new content. Kyle always has that affect on me and inspires me to create like no one I’ve ever been around.

While driving to the farmers market I came up with an idea on how to stay more focused on this blog and how to entrench myself into the subjects and niches that I enjoy partaking in. So here’s the idea…

Each day of the week I’m going to blog about something different that I’m interested in. I’ve run into a bit of inner conflict before with this blog because sometimes I like to blog about marketing. Other times I’m into music or health. It’s not a very consistent theme going on here.

So Mondays will be all about marketing and I’m going to call it Marketing Monday.

Most of my other marketing info will now be available on the appropriately titled domain www.ProfitMoffatt.com. I’m going to start feverishly blogging over there as well. Profit Moffatt Website

So if you are interested in nitty gritty, money making info, that’s the place you are going to want to check regularly.

I know most of my readership came to know me from the marketing world and I haven’t always done the best job with message to market match and I’ve lost a lot of readership by injecting my own personal likes into my messages.

Some people don’t care about raw foods or the fact that I like listening to The Grateful Dead. They just want to know how to make a few bucks online, and I can dig that. So I’m doing my best to appropriately create content that will match exactly what it is the readers want while still honoring myself and what I want to do.

So…

Here’s what the daily/weekly schedule is going to look like here on this blog…

Marketing Monday (Marketing Tips & Strategies)
Tuesdays Tune (Cool Music Stuff)
Wellness Wednesday (Health & Growth Material)
Thursday’s Travels (Info About RV-ing & Travels)
Funny Friday (Jokes, Humor & Sillyness)
Saturday Snacks (Food, Recipes & Restaurants)
Sunday Spotlight (Spotlight An Amazing Person)

The reason I’m setting up each day like this is so I can focus on the items in my life that I enjoy and build a bit of structure to help me better accomplish the goal of blogging every day. If I can scatter the content around like this, I won’t get bored as easily and it will give me a opportunity to chunk stuff away ahead of time. For instance, I already have Thursday’s Travel blog done! So make sure you come back on Thursday as you’ll get to see which city you are destined to live in. More about that on Thursday.

So, without further ado, lets get into Marketing Monday!

Before social media was a household phrase, most marketers referred to it as “Web 2.0″. Everyone was quick to say that Web 2.0 was going to change the internet as we knew it and the old ways of selling items to customers was long gone.

Of course selling is never going to change much. It’s always going to be very similar no matter what the medium is. You find a group of people that are in need of something, you ask them what they want or listen to what they say they want, then you write an advertisement targeting their emotions and desires and you sell em the best product or service you can find. Easy peasy.

While droves of marketers were abandoning the idea of building websites or virtual real estate to instead spend time on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIN, etc I kept warning them that it might not be in their best interest to do so.

Now I’ll admit, I’m addicted to Facebook just as much as the next guy. In fact, probably even more so then 95% of people. However, I’ve never lost site of the fact that it’s so crucial to continue building your OWN web properties and not building other people’s all the time. Facebook is great, but guess who gets paid every time someone clicks a ad on the site? Exactly. Not you!

So while I think social media sites are great for networking, brand awareness and even traffic, they are a huge time waster for people who could be focusing on building and growing their own piece of virtual real estate.

This is the main reason that I’m focusing on writing on my own blog every day. When I create a post here, it’s in the search engine in seconds. Because of the history of this blog and authority status, I can dominate search phrases with relative ease if I keep the post on topic. If I build a few relative links to the post, it’s a great chance I’m cementing a spot on page one in the search engines.

So todays lesson is all about building your own stuff. Please don’t get me wrong and think I’m telling you to get off the social media sites, because even I’m not about to do that. But it’s a wise move to make sure you are spending a appropriate amount of time building your empire, not someone else’s.

Tomorrow I’m doing a webinar with niche marketing wizard Jason Drohn and he’s going to literally walk you step by step through the process that he uses to create money making mini sites with relative ease. If you are interested in making passive income online through FREE traffic methods then this will be the place to be tomorrow night.

This will be CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT and he’s going to show you exactly how he works his mojo on this call.

Plus, I’m going to offering a bonus that is valued at $8000.00. And that’s a real world eight grand too, not just some inflated number that I created to build some perceived value. But the only way for you to get access to this $8,000.00 bonus is for you to be on the call on Tuesday at 6PM Pacific, 9PM Eastern.

J-Mo Exposes The Cheesy Way To Get Popular On Twitter

How many Twitter friends do you have? It’s really become quite a funny contest lately, and there are variety of ways in which some are increasing their “followers”.

I’m about to hit 1000 followers, and am proud to say I’ve done it the non-cheesy way. However, others are taking the Gorgonzola approach and doing all kinds of silly stuff to appear more popular then they really are.

Here’s today’s number one cheesy way to “appear popular” on Twitter…

Some people have a theory that if someone follows you, you should follow them. That’s okay if that’s how you want to do it. Personally I only follow a small amount of friends.

The reason to keep the amount of people you follow to a small amount can be for a variety of reasons. First, it’s just really distracting sometimes. Secondly, some people consider it a positioning thing. If they were to follow too many people it may look like a desperate attempt to garner a bunch of followers through reciprocal following. It’s a low perceived value! And hey, this game is all about perceptions right?

Following a bunch of people is fine, if that’s what you want to do. Nothing wrong with that at all. But here is where it gets all extra Gouda-ish (another smelly cheese)….

Follow a few thousand people, and get them to follow you. Then, all the sudden go on a massive “Unfollow” spree and delete all those people. Now, it appears like you have 2500 people following you, but you are too cool to do the same. Wow, you are so popular now!

It’s actually a pretty good strategy in a slimy and cheesy sort of way. But, it’s pretty lame if you ask me.

So instead I build my Twitter list the old fashion way, and focus on people that really do want to hear from me instead of gaming a bunch of peeps into following me, then just parsing them from the list.

Is it me, or is this a cheesy strategy? Would love to hear your opinions.

Cheers,

J-Mo

PS: Does anyone ever use these little bookmark thingy’s at the end of blog posts? I’m curious.

How To Stalk A Twitter Guru. Uncle Mofo Spies On Shoemoney

Some people may think I never see the messages they post to me about me on Twitter. Think again. I have a variety of ninja tools to keep tabs on the latest gossip about myself, and others.

In the video below, I show you how to use a site called Summize. Summize is a conversational search engine for Twitter that allows you to see who’s talking trash, biz, or just gooey gossip. Watch in as I decide to pick on Shoemoney to spy on.

Answering emails, Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, and Web2.0 messages

I have a hard time letting go of the task of checking my own emails and such. It just seems a bit weird to let someone else handle this tasks because many of the mails I get are personal, or they just need my personal attention.

Many successful entrepreneurs might think I’m crazy to field all my own mails, but it’s just the way I like to do it. I like to stay in touch with what’s going on, and am genuinely curious about people’s problems, desires, and ideas.

However, with over 6000 people on my marketing list, my niche lists over 10,000 people, over 1100 Facebook friends, nearly 900 Twitter friends, 700 Myspace friends, and a pile of email addresses it is nearly impossible for me to respond to all the messages I get. And that makes me feel a bit bad because inevitably I know some people think that I am ignoring them, or simply don’t care. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I sift through all my own emails for a reason… to stay close to the market. I really want to know what is going on. Sadly though, I can’t possibly reply to all the requests I get by myself. So the dilemma arises about hiring a personal assistant to field all these inquiries. I’m not sure what to do.

For now, I try to answer the emails and messages that are really important. Customers are the first priority. If you’ve paid me money, then I really do try to answer every one of those emails. However, sometimes a few slip through the cracks. If that has ever happened to you, I do sincerely apologize. It was not intentional.

Also, I tend to ignore many messages because they are simply “time wasters”. Same thing goes with messages that are 30 paragraphs long.

Here’s a hint to getting a quick reply from me… Make your question or inquiry a “quick one”. State what you need in a couple sentences and be specific. Spare the drama stories (you’d be amazed at how many incredibly sad stories I get on a weekly basis) and focus on the main point you are trying aim at.

I tend to respond to people pro-actively doing stuff much more-so then someone who is having tons of problems and thinks I’m the compassionate ear willing to hear their tales of woe. I don’t mean to be insensitive but there is only so much time in this world, and to be honest, I’m more into paying attention to positive things then the negative.

Anyhow, I just don’t want anyone to feel like a neglected response is a personal insult or a silent attack in any way. The lack of response is simply because of sheer volume of mail and messages and it may have got lost in the clutter, or because I feel it’s a waste of my time.

Time is precious. Every moment of the day means alot to me. And I don’t like to have it wasted. Obviously, I need to get a assistant to handle some of this stuff for me, but for now, I field all my own emails, read them all, and try to reply when I can.

Soon I may add a “paid email service” that guarantees a response. I know some people wouldn’t mind paying a small monthly fee to ensure they had their questions answered.

Right now, the best way to get in contact with me is in the Easy Video Sales Mastermind area.
