Happy Diabetes Day

diabetes, halloween

Howdy everyone,

Today is the day we get kids all dressed up in scary costumers, and equip them with over-sized pillow cases in hopes they can stuff as much refined sugar into that baby as possible.

Screw the old lady down the road who gives away Apples and Granola, we want freaking Snickers and Milky Way granny.

I don’t mean to be a spoil sport, but Halloween is just another day that is begging mom and pop to push there kids one step closer to a Ridilin prescription for their overactive ADHD.

Now as a kid I loved Halloween, and when I was 10 years old I remember having one goal. And that goal was… “When I grow up, I’m going to get a job and spend my whole paycheck on candy.”

I was a candy fiend. I’m sure most of us were.

But as I grow older and look at things with a educated eye, I tend to believe candy and many of the things we shove into our body are WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. And it’s definitely not something that we should devote a whole freaking day too.

I know, I know. I sound like a old ass grandpa screaming … “Get off my lawn you damn kids”.

However, when you know the facts, when you see obese people waddling down the aisle’s of Walmart, and when more people are dying of Diabetes then terrorism will ever cause then it’s sort of an eye opening issue. Of course, the majority of you will never look at this with a open eye because it’s too painful.

Instead, you’ll stick a Twix in your mouth or a Jolly Rancher into your kids face and call it a day.

So, here’s to America’s official… “Diabetes Day”.

Woo-hoo.

Stuff your face kiddies and enjoy (while you can).

  1. I nursed my (almost) Ex wife’s diabetes for 18 years, and took every imaginable class at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.

What you’ve done here Jason is not be a spoiled sport, but
    sound a wake up call.
Maybe it will remind folks to look past the marketing
juggernaut Halloween has become, and think like
intelligent adults who understand 7th grade biochemistry.

I have two huge bowls for tonight.

    1) Older kids get 1 candy and some other stuff.
    2) young kids get all natural low sugar fruit snacks+Crayola Halloween assortment, + Halloween toy. (No they don’t hate
it. They run to the door every year. The oldest that have come for years, ask for stuff from the little kids’ bowl!!)

Don’t get me wrong, I used to come home with a pillowcase bursting with >20lbs of candy!
And my kids are allowed to have some.

    But the numbers don’t lie.
Volume of kid targeted sugar-rich foods times
    number of kids between 5-15.
Google it up. You’ll want to brush your kids teeth right now.

And the ADA has TOTALLY revised decades of opinion,
and now say what I knew all along; an overage of sugar
taxes the pancreas into high risk of failure.

It also involves the liver, and makes both prone to cancer.

  2. Thank you Mo,

That video I hope becomes an eye opener for many people.
Besides my music industry blog, I run a nutrition blog
    mainly for athletes.

But I’ll share this video with my readers and others who
don’t quite understand why taking in the wrong type of foods
daily will give you diabetes in an instant, and destroy your health and quality of life as you get older.

I also was grateful David Wolfe was on the video as well, because he is definitely the guru of eating right and
    living well.

    Thanks again Mo.

  3. Type 1 diabetes (at least) *is* irreversible. I should know because I have it. Makes me pretty mad when I see ads from the “natural food” scammers advertising some bogus product that will “cure” any kind of diabetes.

  4. Keith,

I don’t think the fact that you have Type 1 diabetes is irreversible doesn’t necessarily make you an expert on curing diabetes.

I personally don’t know about this one, but I’ve gotton to know people who got cured by “scammers” from cancer, and the MDs said it would be impossible. One woman they didn’t even want to do chemo with, because they said it was too late and she’d have only a couple of weeks left.

She went through some “whacky” program and got cured. Went back to the MD, and the MD said it didn’t have anything to do with the crazy program, sometimes spontaneous remission happens. (after he basically declared her death already).

(And yes, it was about “natural foods” and a couple of other things, macrobiotic, etc.)

Now, I’d much rather get cured by a scammer than get killed by an MD.

So, sometimes I think it’s worth questioning the docs. I still go to them for checkups and fortunately things are ok. I still respect them and their expertise. I still am suspicious of all the alternative methods, because I know there are a lot of quacks out there. But I’ve also seen some cases where western medicine totally failed and the alternative stuff just cleared it all up. So, if I’d ever had a medical condition like yours, first thing I’d do is change my beliefs to: there IS a cure somewhere (because the world is a really big place), I just haven’t found it yet.

  5. Bob,

All I’m saying is this… It’s downright low to sell a product (i.e. some whacky fruit juice) and advertise that it cures any kind of diabetes. I’ve seen it done. Giving false hope to all the diabetics of the world – who have to live with the disease every day – in order to make a quick buck is pretty disgusting.

    Keith

  6. Yeah Keith and Bob,

I am arriving late to the conversation, but appreciate the discussion. The videos is legit. One of the participants in the program actually attends my old naturopathic medical program. Although David Wolf and Dr. Cousins are considered extreme, they can deliver and they practice what they preach. And thats rare in this day and age.

    thanks for posting this jason.
